Being one of the most popular alternative medicines in the world, massage therapy has been developed over thousands of years. Based on the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork, there are over thousands of massage therapists are certified and practice safely in the United States. People get wellness and other benefits from massage, such as improving circulations to emphasizing lymphatic drainage. Other than different massage techniques, one of the most frequently asked questions would be massage frequency. Today, let’s talk about how often should you get a massage.
The massage frequency varies depending on the follows factors
Massage is the act of rubbing, kneading or striking the surface of the body by hand for treatment and maintenance. If the client has no big health conditions, the general recommendations for massage frequency are every other 1 or 2 weeks. However, along with the age of getting older, the frequency should be increased. For example, I mentioned in one of my earlier posts, one of my client who is over 70 years comes to get massage 2 times every week, and he does not need a crutch assisting walking.
From the relaxation to rehabilitation, people come to the massage for different reasons. Depending on what people need, a massage is able to help relieve pain, reduce muscle tensions, improve the range of movement, and reduce the level of stress and anxiety. For people for the purpose of relaxation with no health concern, it’s recommended to have a massage every 2 weeks or less. For those purposed of range of movements and reduce the stress, it cannot be told how often should have a massage, but at least it should visit a massage therapist at a regular basis.
In general, people are likely to pick an-hour massage session other than 30 minutes. However, it does not mean everyone needs to be the same. Just like mentioned above, people come to have a massage with a different purpose. For example, if a person experiences chronic lower back pain, it is more likely to have a 30 minutes massage each time per week, or just visit a massage therapist as needed.
Because it’s rare for medical insurance to cover massage therapy, the spending is the biggest deterrent to routine massage. Depending on the place you live, the cost for a massage treatment may vary from $40 to 120 per hour based on the massage therapist’s qualifications and experience.
Most massage practitioners and spas offer either membership plans or package deals with discounted prices. It’s not recommended to invest in these promotional programs until you’ve found a therapist you satisfy. But once you find one, it’s much worth doing so. The mind and body benefits you receive may save you from more costly medical expenses in the long run.
